Vol. 472 No. 4

Written Answers. - Incidence of BSE.

Austin Deasy

Question:

67 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to any outbreaks of BSE and other diseases among livestock in Australia, New Zealand and South America; and if so, if he will give details in this regard. [23011/96]

According to reports from the Office International des Epizooties (OIE), BSE has not, to date, been recorded in Australia, New Zealand or South America. However, a case was confirmed in the Falkland Islands in an animal imported from the United Kingdom. Details of all other livestock diseases monitored by the OIE for the countries concerned are also set out in that organisation's reports. Extracts can be made available to the Deputy, if required.
