Vol. 477 No. 3

Written Answers. - Courthouse Facilities.

Chris Flood

Question:

135 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Justice the requests, if any, she has received from South Dublin County Council to ensure that the new courthouse at Tallaght, Dublin 24, will include a facility for the use of Victim Support South Dublin Branch; if this facility will allow for access outside normal court hours; if the design will incorporate direct access to such a facility, such as a self-contained unit within the building; if she will agree to this request; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9378/97]

As the Deputy is aware, work is under way on the construction of a new courthouse for Tallaght. Provision has been made in the design for the allocation of a room in the courthouse for use by the Irish Association for Victim Support on court sitting days.

I can confirm to the Deputy that I have received and recently responded to a request from South Dublin County Council suggesting that a meeting be organised between officials of my Department, South Dublin County Council and the victim support group to consider a request to allow access to the victim support room after normal court hours.
