Vol. 507 No. 2

Written Answers. - Private Rented Accommodation.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

188 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the agencies responsible for the implementation of the Housing (Standards for Rental Accommodation) Regulations, 1993; and the measures, if any, in place to ensure they fulfil their obligations. [16510/99]

Housing authorities are responsible for enforcing the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations, 1993. It is a matter for each authority to put in place arrangements to ensure the effective enforcement of the regulations. I am concerned to see an improved level of enforcement and to this end, housing authorities have been regularly urged by my Department to take all steps open to them to ensure compliance by landlords with the regulations.
