Vol. 507 No. 2

Written Answers. - Autism Services.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

303 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science the position on the provision of a special care unit, a class for children with autism and a further extension to The Holy Family school, Cootehill, County Cavan; if his attention has been drawn to the urgency of these new provisions; when funding will be available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16726/99]

The school referred to by the Deputy has a special class for pupils with autism which was established in the current school year. My Department's inspectorate is currently investigating the establishment of a second special class in the school for pupils with autism. The accommodation needs of the school will be considered as part of this process. My Department will be in contact with the school in relation to these matters.
