Question:

151 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if the inservice diploma or cer tificate in remedial education is recognised by his Department for the purpose of awarding an additional allowance; and if he will consider introducing such an allowance in the future. [23891/99]

The payment of allowances in respect of qualifications is determined following agreement at the conciliation council for teachers.

The teacher unions have lodged a claim seeking payment of allowances in respect of additional qualifications, including qualifications in remedial education. The claim is currently under consideration by the conciliation council.
