Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

289 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position in regard to the proposed new sewerage scheme for Skibbereen, County Cork; and when the necessary finance will be provided by his Department in this regard. [26364/00]

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

291 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position in relation to the £6 million Skibbereen, County Cork, sewerage scheme; and when it will commence. [26409/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 289 and 291 together.

This scheme has been included in the water services investment programme as a scheme to be advanced through planning. An updated preliminary report for the scheme has recently been submitted to my Department by Skibbereen UDC and is currently under examination.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

290 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when approval will be given for a sewerage treatment plant at Milltown, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26365/00]

A preliminary report for this scheme was submitted to my Department in 1994 but has not been approved.

The scheme was 14th on the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Galway County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demands and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time.
Question No. 291 taken with Question No. 289.
