Vol. 545 No. 5

Written Answers. - Educational Projects.

Tony Gregory

Question:

181 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will assist with interim funding for the Ceol project, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31045/01]

Funding at the disposal of the youth affairs section of my Department is designed principally to ensure the provision of non-formal educational opportunities for young people. To do this, grant-aid is provided to youth organisations at national level under the youth service grant scheme, to special youth work projects that assist disadvantaged young people, and to youth clubs and groups through the local youth club grant scheme. Due to the large number of existing commitments in the youth sector this year, it is not possible to accede to the request for interim funding from the Ceol project. Application forms for the year 2002 have issued to all administering agencies, in this instance, City of Dublin VEC, and an application from the Ceol project can be considered together with all the other applications received in the context of funds available in 2002.
