145 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the payments made by his Department from 1997 to date to environmental non-governmental organisations detailing the nature and extent of the projects; the amount and dates of their payments excluding multi-stakeholder bodies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The following schedule indicates the total allocations made to Leader groups for the periods, 1995-99 and 2000-06.
One of the elements of the Leader programme is support for environmental projects at local level. Leader 11, introduced in May 1995, had an allocation of IR£93 million of EU and national funding. Expenditure on environmentally related projects was £10.6 million.
Leader in the period 2000-06 includes a measure to support environmentally friendly initiatives, which is expected to be between 5% and 10% of the total allocation for the programme, which is almost €150 million.
