Olivia Mitchell

Question:

345 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount of money spent under the health capital programme of the national development plan in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3346/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 111 and 345 together.

The total amount of expenditure reimbursed by my Department to health agencies under the health capital programme of the national development plan in 2002 was €507.115 million. The voted capital provision for my Department in 2002 reflects the Government's strong commitment to much needed investment in the health services under the NDP. The funding provided allowed for the development of a range of facilities in all health care programmes including acute hospitals, services for the disabled, services for older persons, mental health, community health, and child care. The expenditure also allowed important capital initiatives to be undertaken in the areas of information and communications technology and in supporting the development of facilities in third level institutions for the nursing degree programme.
