Vol. 561 No. 6

Written Answers - Citizenship Applications.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

118 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a decision will be made on the application by a person (details supplied) in County Kerry for Irish citizenship; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5088/03]

An application for a certificate of naturalisation was received in my Department from the person referred to by the Deputy on 25 November 2002.

Applications for certificates of naturalisation are generally dealt with in chronological order as this method is deemed to be the fairest to all applicants. At present the average processing time of such applications is approximately 15 months. It is likely that the application will be finalised early in 2004.

As soon as I have reached a decision on the matter both the applicant and the Deputy will be informed.
