Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Question:

328 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if an escort and school transport will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who is autistic and attends St. Patrick's special school, Kells Road, Kilkenny; the reason there is no teacher or services at this special unit for autistic children; the service which should be available for each child; if each child has been assessed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7180/03]

The pupil in question resides eight miles from St. Patrick's special school, Kells Road, Kilkenny. Bus Éireann has confirmed that the child can be accommodated on an existing service to the school. The family should contact the local Bus Éireann office to make the necessary arrangements. I have arranged for officials in my Department's special education section to contact the school concerning the matter of teaching support and other services referred to by the Deputy.
