Vol. 576 No. 6
141 Dr. Twomey asked the Minister for Finance the number of civil servants working in County Wexford at present; and if those announced in his Budget 2004 speech are in addition to this number. [30357/03]
145 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Finance the Government Departments which are already decentralised prior to Budget 2004 announcements; the location of each such Department; and the number of employees in each of those Departments at each location. [30384/03]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 141 and 145 together.
Approximately 12,000 civil servants are already working outside Dublin. This figure excludes Prison Service staff deployed in prisons throughout the country and staff of the Department of Foreign Affairs serving abroad. While most of these civil servants work in local offices, about 4,800 are regarded as working in existing decentralised offices. There are currently 670 civil servants located and working in Wexford. This number will increase by a further 540 under the recently announced decentralisation initiative.
A list of existing decentralised offices showing the Departments concerned, locations and approximate numbers of staff is attached.
List of decentralised offices as at 30 November 2003
