Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 27 May 1987

Vol. 116 No. 4

Business of Seanad.

It is proposed to sit on Wednesday, 3 June at 2.30 p.m. and the likely business will be the Companies (No. 2) Bill, 1987, the Second Stage of the Agriculture (An Chomhairle Oiliúna Talmhaiochta) Bill, 1986, and the Consumer Information (Consumer Credit) Order, 1987. That is just for information and may be changed. On Thursday we will discuss Item No. 6, The Development and Management of Small Business Co-operatives.

I could not hear all of that. I apologise if I am asking a question which has already been answered. Could the Leader of the House tell us why we are not sitting tomorrow and if it will be the practice to sit on Thursdays?

It will be the practice to sit on Thursdays.

I am one of 11 Senators sharing an office and since we were here last week a couple of the telephones have been removed from us.

It does not arise now. There was a meeting of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges this afternoon where we dealt with that.

Can I be given an assurance that no further telephones will be removed from the office when we are away tomorrow?

I cannot give you that assurance. It was dealt with this afternoon.

It seems ridiculous that 11 Senators have to operate with six telephones. I do not have a telephone on my desk and there are several other Senators in the office who do not have the facility of——

Order. It does not arise now. It has been dealt with. As Cathaoirleach I have dealt with it this afternoon as best I could.

Can I take it that no further telephones will be removed from the office in the coming days?

I do not know. The leaders of the parties and myself dealt as best we could with it this afternoon.

So we will be getting extra telephones.
