Wednesday, 17 May 1995

Vol. 143 No. 8

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Kelly that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide funding for a national Olympic sized 50 metre swimming pool which could be located in Limerick.

I also received notice from Senator Fahey of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Justice the proposals she has to change the appeal system in District Courts which allows known criminals a further six months period to continue committing crime; and if she will consider an arrangement with the Minister for Defence to make prison places available at a selected number of Army barracks on a pilot basis.

I also received notice from Senator Dan Kiely of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to outline the reasons some social employment and community enterprise schemes have not been approved by FÁS and his Department.

I also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to establish a task force to tackle the increasing wave of crime as outlined in the recent survey carried out by RGDATA.

I also received notice from Senator O'Toole of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to guarantee that class size in a school is not worsened following the transfer of pupils with special needs on a temporary or permanent basis to a special unit, class or school as is currently being threatened in Inch National School, County Tipperary.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Kelly and Fahey as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
