Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform if his attention has been drawn to a circular from an organisation (details supplied) which outlines that clerical and executive officer grade civil servants assigned to An Garda Síochána have serious concerns related to a possible change in their existing terms and conditions as part of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Bill; his views on same; the rationale for a change in the status of these workers from civil servants to public servants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 235 and 242 together.

The matter referred to by the Deputies relates to the civil service status of staff serving in An Garda Síochána in the context of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Bill being advanced by the Minister for Justice. Officials in the Department of Justice are engaging with my officials on the issues in question.
