The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement has issued a nationwide appeal for anyone with information on the locations of the ‘Disappeared’, who were killed and secretly buried by paramilitaries during the Troubles, to come forward.
It follows a powerful address to Committee Members from the representatives of the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains.
Committee Chair Joanna Tuffy TD says: “In a moving presentation, Commissioners Sir Kenneth Bloomfield and Frank Murray said that information was the ‘lifeblood’ of the Commission’s work.
“The Committee heard that the Commission’s overriding priority is to return the remains of the victims to their families in order that they can receive a decent burial and that the families may, in some measure at least, achieve resolution or closure in regard to their disappearances.
“Anyone with any information relating to the location of the seven remains yet to be recovered, should contact the Commission.
“In the presence of the victims’ families in the public gallery, Committee Members expressed unequivocal support for the work of the Commission and stand ready to assist in its work in any way possible.
“The Commissioners reminded us that any information given is absolutely confidential and will not be admissible in criminal proceedings.”
The Commission guarantees that any information given to it or its agents will be used solely for the purpose of locating victims’ remains. Contact details for the Commission are as follows:
