Sub Committee to review 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language

18 Sep 2013, 15:54

The Sub-Committee on the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language and Related Matters will start hearings tomorrow, Thursday, 19th September 2013 when it meets with representatives from Conradh na Gaeilge.

Committee Cathaoirleach Michael McCarthy TD said: “The 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010 – 2030 was published on 21st December 2010, following cross-party support in the Houses of the Oireachtas. Three years into the Strategy the current Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, through its Sub-Committee on the 20-Year Strategy on the Irish Language and Related Matters, now wishes to review the  progress that has been made to date in implementing the Strategy and to find out if the Strategy is achieving results. The Sub-Committee has initially invited representatives of Conradh na Gaeilge to address it at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 19th September 2013. We are interested in hearing the views of Conradh na Gaeilge, a major stakeholder in the promotion of the Irish language, as an initial step in our review process.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2.15pm on Thursday, 19th September 2013.
