Jobs Committee to discuss Pathways to Work report

7 Oct 2013, 11:25

The Government’s Pathways to Work 2013 report and other job creation initiatives will be the focus of the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation when it meets with the Deputy Secretary General of the Department of Social Protection tomorrow, Tuesday, 8th October 2013.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “While there has been encouraging progress in terms of job creation with recent jobs announcements, creating policies to tackle unemployment must remain a priority.

Our Committee is committed to playing its part in finding new potential solutions to getting people back to work. Earlier this year we published a report, Creating Policies that Work – Actions to Address Youth and Long-Term Unemployment, which proposes a three-pronged approach to the jobs crisis with recommendations to keep young people and jobseekers engaged with the jobs market through work placement, training and education; focus on securing funding for investment and job creation; and match jobseekers with suitable jobs, with the co-operation of the public and private sectors.

“Tomorrow Committee Members will have a chance to discuss the Government’s Pathways to Work 2013 report and other job creation initiatives in detail with the Deputy Secretary General of the Department of Social Protection, consider the various measures and how they are working in practice, raise any issues or concerns they may have in terms of job creation and examine how our report can complement the Pathways to Work report.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 at 1.30pm on Tuesday, 8th October 2013.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
