Agriculture Committee to consider EU legislative proposals on animal and plant health

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will this afternoon consider a range of EU legislative proposals relating to animal and plant health. Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine will be in attendance to assist the Committee in scrutiny of the proposals.

8 October 2013  

The proposals are as follows:

  • COM (2013) 260, which relates to animal health requirements;
  • COM (2013) 267, which relates to protective measures against pests of plants;
  • COM (2013) 262, which relates to the production and making available on the market of plant reproductive material, and
  • COM (2013) 265, which relates to official controls along the food chain

 Chairman of the Committee Andrew Doyle TD says: “Oireachtas Committees are playing an ever more important role in the oversight of EU legislation. We look forward to considering a range of EU legislative proposals, which relate to animal and plant health. The Committee will this afternoon carefully considering the proposals and their potential impact on Irish farming and the wider agri-food industry, and decide what further action to take in respect of these important pieces of EU legislation.  

The meeting takes place this afternoon Tuesday 8 October at 2 pm in Committee Room 3 LH 2000.

It will commence with consideration of the proposals in private session. The recommendations by the Committee will then be outlined in public session, which can be viewed online here.
