Oireachtas Committee to engage with nominee for Ombudsman

23 Oct 2013, 09:42

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will this afternoon meet nominee for Ombudsman Peter Tyndall.

Earlier this month, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin TD announced Mr Tyndall as government nominee for the position.

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says:  “Our Committee looks forward to meeting with Peter Tyndall tomorrow to discuss his vision for the Office of the Ombudsman, should he assume the position. The Committee has a formal role in engaging with the Ombudsman and members will be keen to build on the productive relationship we developed with outgoing Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly. Dublin-born Mr Tyndall was Public Service Ombudsman for Wales since 2008, so would brings a wealth of experience to this key role. The meeting will allow the Committee assess the approach he would propose to take in upholding and championing citizens' rights in the delivery of public services. ”

The meeting takes place this afternoon Wednesday 23 October in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 4 pm. Public proceedings can be viewed online via this link.
