4 Nov 2013, 14:54

The Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will begin Committee Stage consideration of the Companies Bill tomorrow, Tuesday, 5th November 2013. The largest substantive Bill in the history of the State, the Bill consolidates the existing 16 Companies Acts and sets out to modernise company law in Ireland. Minister for State at the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation with responsibility for Research and Innovation Seán Sherlock will attend the meetings.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “The Companies Bill, which is the largest in the State to date with more than 1,400 sections, proposes many changes to Company Law and consolidation of the various Companies Acts which date from 1963. It will also introduce several company law reforms.

Tomorrow, we start our consideration of the Bill in detail at Committee Stage and we have scheduled four days of meetings this week to ensure that the Bill receives the fullest attention at Committee Stage but is not delayed in reaching its next stage.”
