Justice Committee to reserve right to question Secretary General on matters within its remit

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality has this morning agreed to write to the Secretary General of the Department of Justice and Equality Brian Purcell, confirming his invitation to appear before the Committee.

The letter will state that the Committee reserves the right to question him on matters of policy and administration within the Department,  being matters which fall within its remit as specified in the Committee's Orders of Reference. The meeting will in particular focus on the findings of the Guerin report, with the Committee keen to question Mr Purcell on the issues raised in relation to the administration of the Department. 

It is expected that the meeting will take place during the week commencing Monday 26 May.
