Select Committee on Arrangements for Budgetary Scrutiny Committee to hold first meeting

The Select Committee on Arrangements for Budgetary Scrutiny will meet tomorrow Wednesday, 1st June 2016, at 11am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.

his Select Committee is a preliminary committee which has been established to define the role and function of the Budget Oversight Committee.

The first business of the Committee will be to elect a Chairperson. It will then consider a draft Work Programme of the Committee to cover the review of arrangements to enhance engagement in relation to the following issues:

•    Scrutiny of revenue raising proposals
•    Scrutiny of expenditure proposals and associated performance
•    Review of the general fiscal position (including engagement on the Stability Programme Update)
•    Establishment and role of the proposed Parliamentary Budget Office with particular reference to the issue of costing of policy proposals
•    Review of Standing Orders and statutory provisions arising from the proposals made in the OECD Report Budgetary Oversight by Parliament: Ireland.
