The Select Committee on Arrangements for Budgetary Scrutiny will discuss the Government submission to the Committee on proposed reforms to the Budgetary process when it meets tomorrow Wednesday, 8th June 2016, at 11am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.

This Select Committee is a preliminary committee which has been established to define the role and function of the Budget Oversight Committee.

Chair of the Committee, John Paul Phelan TD said: “The Ministers for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform Michael Noonan TD and Paschal Donohoe TD have provided the committee with a submission which details proposed reforms to the Budgetary process that have been approved by the new Government. Among the details outlined in the submission are: the publication of the Government’s Summer Economic Statement in June; holding the National Economic Dialogue at the end of June; the publication of Mid-Year Expenditure Report in July; circulation of the Tax Strategy Papers to the relevant sectoral Oireachtas Committees in late July; and enhanced ex post scrutiny of the implementation of budget proposals. Tomorrow, the Committee will discuss the Government submission in detail, as well as considering the roles of the Budget oversight and sectoral committees in the budget cycle.”
