Social Protection Committee to discuss rent supplement increases with Department of Protection

12 Jul 2016, 13:53

The Select Committee on Social Protection will meet with officials from the Department of Social Protection tomorrow, Wednesday, 13th July 2016 to consider Rent Supplement increases.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Our meeting tomorrow with the officials from the Department of Social Protection will consider Rent Supplement increases. All Members of the Committee are aware of the increasing hardship that citizens have encountered because of increasing rents. People in receipt of Rent Supplement have experienced particular difficulty, because the limits were seen as being too low to meet the rents being sought. The Government recently agreed to increase rent supplement and housing assistance payment which was one of the recommendations in the report by the Special Committee on Housing and Homelessness. Tomorrow, the Committee will consider the impact of the increase in Rent Supplement.”

This meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 13th July at 11am in Committee Room 2.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
