Social Protection Committee to discuss pre-Budget submission with Age Action and SVP

26 Sep 2016, 11:31

The Committee on Social Protection will meet with representatives of Age Action Ireland and St Vincent de Paul (SVP) tomorrow, Tuesday, 27th September 2016 to discuss their pre-Budget statements.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Age Action Ireland is the national independent organisation on ageing and older people whose main aim is to improve the quality of life of older people. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) is the largest voluntary charitable organisation in Ireland which adopts a practical approach to dealing with poverty through working primarily in person-to-person contact by a unique system of family visitation. As the Committee tasked with providing meaningful input into legislation and policy around social protection, the Committee is cognizant of the work carried out by these organisations. Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to meet with representatives of both organisations to get an update on the key issues facing them and consider the proposals that both organisations would like to see implemented in terms of taxation and expenditure in the forthcoming Budget.”

This meeting will start in public session at 11am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Tuesday 27th September.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
