The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will tomorrow meet with the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Phil Hogan, to discuss the State of the Union 2016 and the strategic direction of the European Union.

The meeting will commence at 12.00pm in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Thursday, 20 October 2016.

Committee Chairman Michael Healy-Rae TD, said “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to engage with Commissioner Hogan. The most recent State of the Union address comes at a time when the UK referendum decision to withdraw from the European Union is having a very real impact and so Members look forward to hearing from Commissioner Hogan in this regard.”

“The wide ranging address from President Juncker aimed to underpin the values of the European Union and Committee Members will now look to explore the specifics further with Commissioner Hogan, including the proposals for investing in youth, an investment plan for Africa and proposals for a European Boarder and Coast Guard authority.”
