Committee Chairperson, Kathleen Funchion TD said, “The significant growth in cross-border co-operation over the past 20 years has been an extremely welcome development. Trade between the North and South continues to grow and the roads infrastructure plays an important in this. Tomorrow we will discuss funding programmes

“Also on the agenda will be the proposed Narrow Water Bridge. The bridge would link Omeath and Warrenpoint at the top of Carlingford Lough where it meets the Newry River. Plans were stalled due to funding issues. The cross-border bridge has been the subject of talks for many years now and the Committee will wish to hear how this potential infrastructure project could provide a boost for the local economies both sides of the border.”
