The Joint Committee on Education and Skills will tomorrow continue their considerations of the findings in the Report of the Export Group on Future Funding for Higher Education.

In the first session, the Committee will hear from representatives of the Union of Students in Ireland, the Students Union in Trinity College Dublin, the Irish Second Level Students Union, the Royal Irish Academy, the Governing Authority in NUI Galway and the Governing Authority in University College Cork.

The second session will see the Committee meet with representatives of IBEC, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Social Justice Ireland, the National Youth Council of Ireland, Irish Farmers Association and the Higher Education Colleges Association.

The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 8 December 2016.

Committee Chairperson, Fiona O’Loughlin TD, said “This is the latest in a series of meetings where we are examining the findings of the Cassells report. The bodies who we will meet tomorrow are integral to the effective functioning of higher education in Ireland and so we welcome this opportunity to hear their observations and insights into the findings of this important report. We must attempt to find consensus on this issue in order to protect and grow higher education provision in Ireland and this is an important meeting in that regard.”
