Petitions on working hours and driving test requirements among those to be considered by Committee

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow to consider a number of public petitions received.

Petitions to be considered include:

•    Petition No P00020/16 – Negotiating Norms;
•    Petition No P00026/16 – Driving test requirements;
•    Petition No P00029/16 – Reduce Maximum Working Week to 40 hours;
•    Petition No P00035/16 – Financial Ombudsman Review.

Committee Chairman, Sean Sherlock TD, said “Tomorrow’s meeting will hear petitions relating to a variety of topics, including reducing the maximum average working week for many employees to 40 hours per week (currently 48 hours per week), and amending the lessons system for the driving test.”

“We will also look at a petition relating to an issue with the Agency for Personal Services Overseas (APSO) (this agency no longer exists and is now within the remit of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) and a petition calling for a decision made by Financial Services Ombudsman (FSO) to be reviewed.”

All petitions will be examined for their compliance with Standing Orders and decisions will be given in public session.

The meeting will start at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House, tomorrow, Wednesday, 25 January 2017.
