The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will tomorrow meet with the Minister of State for European Affairs, Dara Murphy TD, to hear a briefing on the work of the General Affairs Council (GAC) and key developments on the European Agenda.

The meeting will commence at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 February 2017.

Committee Chairman, Michael Healy-Rae TD, said “Following on from our excellent engagement with Minister Murphy in Brussels last week, we will now have the opportunity to hear an update on the work of the General Affairs Council (GAC) across their December and January meetings. Last week, the GAC discussed a variety of issues under headings such as Justice & Home Affairs, Enlargement, Trade Policy, the Internal Market and the Environment and we welcome Minister Murphy’s presentation in this regard.”

“More generally, we will also look at the key developments on the European Agenda and Members will take the opportunity to bring our learnings to the Minister following our meetings in both the European Commission and Parliament. It has been signalled that Article 50 will be triggered by the United Kingdom in March and we welcome the opportunity to engage with Minster Murphy ahead of this important deadline.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
