20 February 2017

The Joint Committee on Education and Skills will tomorrow discuss positive mental health in schools with representatives from psychology website Moodwatchers, the Crooked House Theatre Company, the School of Human Development at Dublin City University (DCU) and Jigsaw Mental Health Services.

The meeting will commence at 4.00pm in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, Tuesday, 21 February 2017.

Committee Chairperson, Fiona O’Loughlin TD, said “The period in a student’s life when they attend school is fundamental to their personal and social development. It is a time where emotional intelligence and coping skills are developed and is a unique opportunity for positive mental health practices to be instilled.”

“Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to meet with a broad group of stakeholders with an interest in the area. Members will look to hear the expert opinion of those that have carried out academic research in the area, those that work directly with students in promoting positive mental health and those that help students who may be currently experiencing difficulties in this area.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
