The meeting will commence at 12.30pm in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, Tuesday, 21 February 2017.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence Committee, Brendan Smith TD, said “On behalf of myself and the Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee, Michael Healy-Rae TD, I warmly welcome Mr. Timmermans' appearance at this joint sitting tomorrow. As EU Commissioner with responsibility for Better Regulation, Inter-Institutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights, Members on both Committees will have much to discuss with the First Vice-President in these areas. Members will also take the opportunity to discuss a broad range of important European issues, not least the unique challenges that Brexit poses to the island of Ireland.”

“Tomorrow’s meeting is also an excellent demonstration of how Oireachtas Committees can work effectively in Joint Session. Members will work together, and across their remits, to put forward the Irish case as a whole to Mr. Timmermans.”
