Social Protection Committee to discuss MABS restructuring

21 Feb 2017, 17:54

Restructuring management and governance of the Money Advice & Budgeting Service (MABS) will be on the agenda of the Committee on Social Protection tomorrow, Thursday, 23 February 2017.

MABS is the State’s money advice service, guiding people through dealing with problem debt for more than twenty years. MABS is made up of 53 Money Advice and Budgeting Services operating from over 60 offices nationwide.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “In 2009, the Citizens Information Board took over responsibility for the MABS offices from the Department of Social Protection. The Citizens Information Board’s strategic plan 2015 to 2018 aims to revise the management structures and governance of the Citizens Information Service and MABs. Tomorrow, we will meet with representatives from Citizens Information Board and MABS to discuss the proposals and their likely impact on governance and delivery of MABS services.”

This Committee will meet at 10am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 23 February 2017.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
