Senator Catherine Noone elected Chair of Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution

The Committee was established to consider the Citizens’ Assembly report and recommendations on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution. The Committee is required to report its conclusions and recommendations to both Houses of the Oireachtas within three months of its first public meeting.

Senator Noone said: “It’s a great honour and privilege to have been elected Chair of the Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution. I look forward to working with all of my colleagues from across the political spectrum to ensure the Committee fulfils its remit. The Committee met for the first time today in private session and agreed that we would meet again in two weeks once the report of the Citizen’s Assembly has been received.”
