The Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands will discuss the topic 'Straitéis Óige don Ghaeltacht’ with representatives of Muintearas at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 10 October 2017.

Committee Chair Catherine Connolly: “Tomorrow, the Coiste na Gaeilge, na Gaeltachta agus na nOileán den Oireachtas will discuss the topic 'Straitéis Óige don Ghaeltacht’ with representatives of Muintearas. Among its other responsibilities Muintearas is responsible for planning and implementing activities for young people in Gaeltacht areas. These include organising Summer Camps on behalf of the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht and Údarás na Gaeltachta. Muintearas has developed the Straitéis do dhaoine óga na Gaeltachta after consulting widely with individuals and groups throughout the Gaeltacht.

The Committee welcomes the publication of the Straitéis and is looking forward to discussing with Muintearas how best it can be implemented and how best it can be used to provide for the youth of the Gaeltacht and facilitate them in remaining in their local areas as native speakers.”
The Committee will meet at 5pm, tomorrow, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
