Good Friday Committee to discuss legacy issues

The meeting will focus on engagement with groups dealing with legacy issues in Northern Ireland.

The following witnesses will attend:

• Mr. Brian Gormally, Director of Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ);
• Ms. Sandra Peake, Chief Executive Officer of WAVE Trauma Centre.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair, Kathleen Funchion TD, said today, “Tomorrow’s meeting is the second in a series of meetings we will hold with groups and individuals working on legacy issues across all affected communities. The re-establishment of a functioning Executive in the North is of critical importance if these and other issues are to be addressed and to ensure that the voices of these communities are heard. The CAJ works to ensure that the government complies with its responsibilities in international human rights law. WAVE is a cross community, voluntary organisation formed in 1991 to support people who were bereaved or injured during The Troubles. Both groups serve an important function in addressing legacy issues on the ground with members of both communities.”
