Business, Enterprise and Innovation Committee to discuss Ireland’s skills needs

12 Nov 2018, 09:56

The Joint Committee on Business, Enterprise and Innovation will examine Ireland’s skills needs on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Irish Business and Employers Confederation will engage with the Committee on issues including skills shortages in the labour market, ways to promote in-demand skillsets, and possible reforms in the provision of apprenticeships and work permits.

Scheduled witnesses include IBEC Head of Education and Social Policy Tony Donohoe and ICTU Industrial Officer Peter Rigney.

“IBEC and ICTU can offer important insights into emerging needs in the labour market,” said Committee Chair Mary Butler TD. “The Committee is keen to hear the strategic views of labour unions and employers on how best to develop, recruit and retain the workers of tomorrow.”

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live here.
