European Union Affairs Committee to discuss Brexit preparedness with EU Affairs Minister

5 Dec 2018, 09:50

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will discuss Ireland’s preparations for Brexit and other EU matters on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 2:30 p.m.

Minister of State for European Affairs Helen McEntee TD will engage with the Joint Committee on the outcome of the most recent EU General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels. Expected topics include the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2021-2027; completion of the Single Market, particularly in relation to services and the Digital Single Market; and the Future of Europe debate.

“Ireland faces so many challenges and uncertainties as the UK prepares to leave the EU. We must do all we can to be prepared for all eventualities,” said Committee Chairman Michael Healy-Rae TD.

“We must not lose focus, of course, on the many important projects for developing our Union in positive ways," Deputy Healy-Rae said. "The Joint Committee looks forward to discussing the wider EU agenda, including the proposals for the next MFF and the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Single Market, with the Minister of State.”

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live here.
