Representatives from the Department of Justice will appear before the Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands tomorrow when it meets to discuss the Official Languages Bill and various other matters.
The Department of Justice and Equality works to advance community and national security, promote justice and equality and safeguard human rights, to achieve our vision of a safe, fair and inclusive Ireland.
Given the wide remit of the Department of Justice and Equality and its frequent contact with the public, the Committee will be eager to learn how the Department meets its Irish Language obligations.
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Catherine Connolly TD, said, “The Committee welcomes the opportunity to hear from the Department of Justice regarding commitments to the Irish language.
“Given the broad scope of responsibility which the Department of Justice and Equality fulfils, Tuesday’s opportunity is most welcome. The Committee is eager to learn about the objectives and measures which the Department of Justice and Equality have undertaken to make the Irish language and bilingual services available there.”
The meeting will start at 4pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House.
