Joint Committee on Justice and Equality to continue discussions on access to justice and legal costs

17 Dec 2019, 15:23

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House to continue discussions on access to justice and legal costs.

The Committee will hear submissions from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, the State Claims Agency, Insurance Ireland and the Legal Service Regulatory Authority.

Ahead of the meeting, Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “This is our third meeting on access to justice and legal costs, following our engagements with representatives of the legal bodies and community law service providers. Legal costs have often been cited as one of the factors affecting the price of insurance in Ireland. Members are particularly interested in hearing the views of the insurance industry and the State Claims Agency, as well as the two regulators, on this critical issue.”
