Joint Committee on Health to meet for discussion on the serious issues raised in the Hiqa report in relation to the Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick

20 Sep 2022, 13:25

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 21st September for a discussion on the serious issues raised in the Hiqa report in relation to the Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick at 9:30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The Committee will hear submissions from representatives from the Health Service Executive.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Sean Crowe TD said “this meeting tomorrow will give our Committee the opportunity to get first-hand reaction from the HSE and explore the serious shortcomings that were revealed in the report published in June by the Health and Information Quality Authority (Hiqa). The report brought to light  chronic overcrowding and said that significant nurse and bed shortages at UHL’s ED was putting patients at risk of harm, as well as compromising their dignity and confidentiality”.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
