The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet this evening to discuss the challenges facing the Aquaculture Industry in Ireland with representatives from the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA).
Speaking ahead of the meeting at 7.00pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with the IFA to discuss the challenges facing Ireland’s aquaculture industry and how the sector can have a sustainable future and reach its economic potential.
“The Committee notes calls by the sector for a single piece of legislation to implement and underpin appropriate aquaculture policy and bring together all existing legislation, and the requirement to reform, modernise, and improve the aquaculture licensing system. Members look forward to discussing these and related issues with the IFA representatives.”
The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
