Committee on Budgetary Oversight to meet for discussion on The National Development Plan in 2023: Priorities and Capacity report

31 Jan 2024, 14:23

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will meet today, Wednesday 31st January for discussion on The National Development Plan in 2023: Priorities and Capacity report with representatives from the ESRI at 5:30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Barry Cowen TD said “When the current National Development Plan (NDP) was launched in 2018, it identified a clear need for substantial public investment in Ireland. These needs were set out again with the launch of the renewed NDP in 2021. The report that we are looking at today from the ESRI was commissioned by the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform with the majority of work contained within was undertaken in early summer 2023.

We will look to the representatives attending to explain and provide expert guidelines on how they think the visible conflict between the need for public investment on one side and the constraints on investment on the other, which provided the context for the report, can be managed.”
