Vol. 161 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Surtax Payments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of persons paying surtax in the £1,500 to £2,000 income category in the last financial year for which such information is available, and the amount of surtax collected from such persons.

Surtax statistics are not kept in such a way as would enable the information asked for by the Deputy to be given. It is estimated however, that, for the year of assessment 1954-55, the number of persons in the £1,500 to £2,000 income range was approximately 3,800, and that the surtax payable by them for that year was approximately £34,000.
