Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

137.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a person (details supplied) in County Cork who was granted a prescribed relatives allowance from 14 September 1984, will be paid arrears which are due to him.

The person concerned has been in receipt of an old age contributory pension since 24 June 1966. He claimed a prescribed relative's allowance on 14 September 1984 and following investigation by a social welfare officer this was awarded with effect from that date. A supplementary book containing orders payable from 5 October 1984 was issued to the designated post office on 17 December 1984 for collection by him. Arrears due in respect of the period from 14 September 1984 to 4 October 1984 were issued by payable order.

138.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will receive the maximum rate of unemployment assistance as he appealed his case in November 1984.

The person concerned is at present in receipt of unemployment assistance at £27.85 weekly the appropriate rate £31.75 less means £3.90. His means are derived from self-employment as a labourer. He recently indicated that he wished to appeal against the amount of means assessed against him but as the time allowed for appeal had expired an application for a review of his means was accepted from him. His case has been referred to a social welfare officer for reinvestigation and when these inquiries are completed his rate of unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of the social welfare officer's report. It is expected that these inquiries will be completed shortly.
