Vol. 193 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telefís Éireann Reception in County Monaghan.

33.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that reception of Telefís Éireann in County Monaghan is most unsatisfactory; and whether he has under contemplation any steps to make this service effectively available for the people in County Monaghan.

It is the function of the Broadcasting Authority to provide a national television service. I understand that reception from the Kippure transmitter in parts of County Monaghan is not satisfactory, but the position should improve when the Truskmore transmitter is brought into operation during the second half of this year.

Where is it being erected?

It should be in operation about July.

Geographically, where is Truskmore?

In Sligo, near Ben Bulben.

Is it hoped that Monaghan will derive benefit from Truskmore?

The position will improve and the Authority hopes, I understand, to make extensive field tests to provide better and perhaps adequate coverage for County Monaghan.

I am much obliged to the Minister but we look on Truskmore as being further away from us than Dublin.
