Vol. 259 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School Course.

23.

andMr. Begley asked the Minister for Education if he will reconsider the proposal to take away the leaving certificate course at Cloghane, Castlegregory secondary school, County Kerry which has been very successful since it was established approximately eleven years ago.

The problem in relation to this school and other similar schools is that due to the small numbers of pupils it is not possible to provide a curriculum which would be sufficiently broad to cater for the aptitudes and ability of all the pupils. It has, however, been represented to me that there are special circumstances in the case of this school which are related to the distance of the school from the nearest available post-primary centre and to other considerations. I am having the matter reviewed in the light of those representations.
