Vol. 60 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seaweed Experiments.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the investigation, as to the possibilities of utilising cellulose and other organic matter in seaweed, conducted at University College, Galway, has yielded positive results, and, if so, whether he will state if steps will be taken in the immediate future to make available for commercial purposes the information acquired.

An exhaustive research on seaweed is in progress at University College, Galway, and any results of practical commercial application that may be derived from the investigation will be made available for the benefit of Irish industry.

Could the Minister say if this investigation is identical with the research as to the possible uses of seaweed being carried out by the Industrial Research Council, or are there two sets of activities?

It is the same.
