Vol. 60 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nomination of Chairman of Unified Society.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the rules of the Unified Society which were approved more than a year ago contain provision for the nomination of the chairman of the society by the Minister; that the rules clearly contemplate that this provision shall apply after the provisional committee is replaced by the committee of management provided for in Section 4 of the Act of 1933 and if he will state the statutory authority under which the rule in question was approved.

Rule 4 (1) of the society's rules embodies the provisions of Section 4 (3) (a) of the National Health Insurance Act, 1933, under which the chairman of the provisional committee is nominated by the Minister. The rule specifically states that this provision is limited to the period up to the appointed day and it does not, therefore, apply after the provisional committee is replaced by the new committee of management. The rule was approved under Section 10 (c) of the National Health Insurance Act, 1933.
